“Again Jesus said, ‘Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.’”
John 20:21
The tomb is empty.
We’ve celebrated the resurrection. We’ve proclaimed the victory. We’ve sung the songs and shared the message.
But now comes the question that defines everything:
What do we do with it?
Because the resurrection was never meant to stop at celebration.
It was meant to send us.
The Resurrection Is a Sending Moment
In John 20, Jesus appears to His disciples after the resurrection.
And what does He say?
Not “Sit and reflect.”
Not “Stay and celebrate.”
He says:
“As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”
The empty tomb is not just proof of victory.
It’s a commissioning moment.
From Celebration to Commission
Many churches do a wonderful job celebrating Easter.
But far fewer make the shift to mission.
We:
Rejoice in the resurrection
Gather in worship
Reflect on what Christ has done
But then…
We settle back into routine.
And we miss the natural next step:
Going.
Because the Gospel doesn’t just change what we believe.
It changes how we live.
Your Church Is Already Positioned for Mission
Here’s the good news:
You don’t need to create a mission field.
You’re already in one.
Your community is filled with:
People searching for hope
Families in need of connection
Individuals who are far from God
The question is not:
“Do we have a mission?”
The question is:
“Are we living it?”
What Everyday Mission Actually Looks Like
Mission is not just a program.
It’s a posture.
It’s a way of life.
And for your church, it can begin with simple, intentional steps:
1. Help Your People See Their Everyday Lives as Ministry
Discipleship doesn’t stop at the church doors.
Encourage your people to live missionally:
In their neighborhoods
At their workplaces
In their daily routines
Every conversation is an opportunity. Every relationship is a bridge.
2. Identify One Clear Way to Engage Your Community
This is where your One Excellent Mission comes into focus.
Don’t try to do everything.
Ask:
Where is the greatest need in our community?
Where has God already opened a door?
Then focus your efforts there.
3. Equip, Don’t Just Encourage
Your people want to make a difference—but many don’t know how.
Show them:
How to share their story
How to invite others into conversation
How to serve with intentionality
Confidence grows when people are equipped.
4. Lead the Way
Your church will follow your example.
If you are:
Engaging your community
Building relationships
Living on mission
They will too.
Mission is more caught than taught.
Smaller Churches—This Is Where You Thrive
You may not have the scale of a larger church.
But you have something just as powerful:
Proximity
Authenticity
Flexibility
You are deeply connected to your community.
You can respond quickly.
You can build meaningful relationships.
And that’s exactly where the Gospel takes root.
The Empty Tomb Demands a Response
The resurrection is not just something we believe.
It’s something we live out.
Because if Jesus is alive…
Then:
Hope is real
The mission is urgent
And the world needs what we have
We are not called to preserve the message.
We are called to carry it.
Pastor, leader, friend—take a moment this week and ask:
“Where is God sending us right now?”
Then take one step:
Identify a clear mission focus
Mobilize your people
Engage your community intentionally
Don’t wait for the perfect plan.
Start with a faithful step.
Because the empty tomb is not the end of the story.
It’s the beginning of the mission.
